Someone visiting Austin with a view to moving here

My name is Carolyn and I'm from Liverpool. My husband is Tim
and he's from Ireland. We lived in NYC for 10 years before
moving to PA to get our kids into decent schools. Tim still
does the 80 mile each way commute to work and it's killing him.
He's a union electrician and is hoping to transfer to the
Austin local. We are planning our first visit next weekend, Feb
8-12 to look at houses and hopefully for Tim to meet some union
electricians and check out the work situation. I hope to also
be able to find a job in Austin, prospects in PA are awful. We
would love to meet some people while we are in the city and get
advice on this big move. We are leaving the kids at home so it
would be great to experience the city and enjoy a drink too.
Tim also plays bagpipes and he would love to find out if there
are any other pipers around. Any words of advice would really
help. Thanks.....can't wait to leave the snow behind!
