Just because we're a long way from home doesn't mean we have to miss out on some traditions right??? Well, every year the Pelican Inn (a beautiful British Pub in Marin) holds a bonfire on Muir Beach. People attend from all over to watch the Guy burn then head back to the pub (it's close-by) to celebrate (hic!)! The Pelican have confirmed the event is definitely on but due to the cost of parking by the Park Service, they will have to charge $10 per head admission this year (still, it's a bargain for just 5 quid a head!). Read more about this on their site by clicking the link below: http://www.pelicanin n.com/holiday.html Anyway, I've added the address so hope to see you there! Pip, Pip! R

In order to introduce some variety this month, we have been kindly offered the use of a new location- the Etiquette Lounge on Market street. It is on Market and 7th so the location is still very central near public transport (BART and MUNI) and parking for cars and broomsticks! (the closest are Mission and 7th or Golden Gate and Jones). We can secure the whole bar to ourselves if we can confirm 50 people before 9pm so accept early- at the very least we will have an area reserved for us so look for the flags. Here is a link to the bar's website for more information. http://www.etiquette lounge.com Hope to see you all there Pip, pip! R PS We shall celebrate Kate's 30th birthday also! (We'll help share the pain!)

To mourn the ending of summer (though this is when "the City's" at it's best!) and celebrate my 33rd birthday we will be back at the King George Hotel on Mason street. They'll be laying on some nibbles for us in case you haven't had time to eat?I may even try to bring a cake too! Don?t forget it?s close to Union Square and there?s parking right across the street! See you then! R

Okay Troops, Another date for your calendars! The Shakespeare Festival will begin later this year so I thought I could place another meet-up event at one of the productions. From July through September the group will be performing the wonderful "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at parks around the Bay area. (see link below for other dates and locations) so I thought we could meet at one of the performances in San Francisco's Presidio. I've been to this before and there's always lots of space to sit (and tons of parking) but come early so we can try to sit together (the performance starts at 2.30). Don't forget your rug and your picnic! Here's the link for all their performances http://www.sfshakes. org/park/index.html Hope to see you there! Hurrah! R

Seeing as we're all "far, far away" (from home at least!) I figured I'd let you know about an event that will be fun especially for Star Wars fans. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of its release there will be a screening of the original Star Wars film in Creek Park, San Anselmo (just 25 minutes drive over the GG Bridge), Marin at 8pm on Friday 31 August. For those of you who don't know already, San Anselmo is also where George Lucas lives (me too!) so he may even be in attendance. Entry to the event is free but they recommend a donation of $6 for adults and $3 for children. Click this link to find out more about the event and to link to other films showing in the festival http://www.filmnight .org/star_wars.htm This is not an "official" Brit Meet-up (is there such a thing??) but I'm putting this on as an extra event. It may not be too easy to gather as a group though we can try to sit together if we have some space. Bring something to sit on and plenty of warm clothing (or just lots of wine) and try to arrive early if you can (hence the event start time of 7 not 8) in order to find space to sit and a good parking spot for your X-wing! Cheers R PS Don't worry if you can't make the Friday, the 2004 version of Star Wars is showing the next night- Sat 1st Sept. PPS No droids, okay - we don't want their sort around here!

Jules and I have decided to host an afternoon combining two of our favourite sports volleyball and beer drinking! "Hurrah!" I hear you shout! The event will be held from 2 pm on little Marin Green which is the grass strip between the line of trees (carpart behind) and Lyon Street. It's opposite the Palace of Fine Arts in the Marina district of San Francisco. Basically, just bring yourself, something to sit on, and kids/dogs etc, your ball skills...oh, and your ample supply of beer (okay, or wine if you must!) for an afternoon of fun (the more beer you drink, the more fun it will be!) Hope to see you all there! Pip pip! R

The king George has kindly offered to host us once more. As you know, with the size of the group these days, the King George offers us the perfect space as well as cheap drinks and free nibbles! The location is great being very central and close to public transit. For those who drive in, parking at the O?Farrell garage across the street is just $15 for the evening (despite what the signs say!) Hope to see you all there! R

Join us to celebrate (albeit one day late) the 2007 summer solstice! The only thing missing will that lovely British tradition of scrapping with the police at Stonehenge! That said, consume one too many beers and I'm sure we could create something similar outside Macys! The King George hotel near Union Square have kindly offered to host us again so there'll be lots of room for us all! Easy parking is just across the street and it's just 3 minute's walk from Market Street so great for all public transport. Hope to see you all there - druids made extra-welcome! Pip pip! R

Okay chaps, after the success of last year?s summer party, I figured it?s high time we set a date for our first summer party of 2007! I?ve been informed that Baker Beach, in the Presidio, would be a good location to hold it since there?s ample space and lots of parking. I?ll organise some games to play (remember the balloons from last year?) and Jules will be bringing her volleyball net so bring your jumping skills too! Here?s the details: Location - Baker Beach, San Francisco - just look for the large British Flag! Time - 12 - 4pm What to bring - Something to sit on, whatever you need to eat and drink?and any games etc - don't forget to bring your kids and any other pets! REMEMBER THIS IS AN SF BEACH SO DRESS IN LAYERS... JUST IN CASE! I?ve created a flyer listing all the details including a map - here?s the link to get it from the Files section on this site. http://brit.meetup.c om/92/files/ Hope to see you there! R

Join us for our first meet-up after St George's day (23rd April) at the appropriately named King George Hotel on Mason St. They have kindly given us our own room and bar for the event so we shouldn?t have any space issues this time. The hotel is very well located being close to Union Square and with ample parking in the garage just over the street. Hope to see you there! R
