Once again- we are expecting the Pelican Inn to host its annual Bonfire Night event on Muir beach. I'm waiting to them to officially post it on their website so will update you all when it's confirmed

Start time: The guy is normally placed on the bonfire at 7pm so the fire should be lit around 6.15-30ish.

Finding the group: As with previous years' events, the darkness makes it incredibly hard to find each other so don’t definitely plan on finding the group (there's often around 200 people or more there) but I will be carrying a torch ("flashlight") and probably wearing a scarf too (good luck!) and there is NO MOBILE SIGNAL on the beach (at least not with AT&T). Those who went to the pub after previous events know how crampted it can be after the bonfire and how long you can wait to be served so, if that's not your thing, just bring some beers (or mulled wine etc) and chill around the fire for a while (that's my plan)

Parking: Park in the Muir Beach car park and walk the 2 minutes to the pub (the pub car-park fills up VERY fast!)

To bring: A torch, warm clothing and drinks if you are just chilling by the fire

Carpooling: If you are interested in carpooling, let me know and i'll try to connect you all.
Hope to see you there!

PS This is a very child-friendly event!

Sylvia will be happy to raise a glass with you all at "The Tipsy Pig" on Chestnut Street this coming Friday evening from 6.30 pm. I think the name itself makes it worthy of a visit!

As usual, buy a drink at the bar and mosey on over to where you hear English accents and introduce yourself. Although not obligatory, please make an effort to sign up for the event because it gives the organizer some idea of the numbers expected and even a slim chance of remembering a couple of names!

It should be another great end-of-month meetup with good company and beer, so please go along if you're free and join Sylvia and other Brits.

Cheers.

Hi Everyone,

Join us for a beer and curry in the City on Saturday 17th, followed by Indian dancing for those of you with the energy!

I will be propping up the bar in the King George Hotel on Mason Street from 7pm and plan to head out for a curry at “Little Delhi” on Eddy Street between 8.45 pm – 9pm, which has had good reviews on Yelp.

Caitlin will then lead you off to “Bhangra Night” at the Rickshaw Shop for Indian dance music - and it's absolutely fabulous! Dancing starts at 10.30 pm and gets going full on by 11 pm. Rickshaw Stop is on Fell at Franklin and costs $15 to get in if you pay online or $20 at the door. Here is the link:

Look forward to seeing some of you at the King George. Please bring along ideas of good places to have our end-of-month drinks.

Cheers.

Caitlin Miller will be hosting the following event, so come on over to Sausalito once your Saturday morning chores are over with:

12-1pm Rendezvous at Sartaj Indian Cafe on Caledonia St in Sausalito. Sartaj is a fantastic hole-in-the-wall place with great chai and good basic Indian nosh. If you're not hungry, it's perfectly OK to sit and drink tea, lassi or beer. Just ask for Caitlin at the counter and the owners will point me out. (The restaurant is about 10 ft square so frankly it'll be hard not to find each other!).

The idea is to carpool to Muir Woods ($5 entrance) which, if it's a nice day, will have limited car parking, but you don't have to if you don't want to! We will leave Sartaj at 1pm sharp and head to Muir Woods. We will decide what trail to take once we get there, based on everyone's preferences. The idea is to have a pleasant walk and connect, so don't expect anything too arduous!

When we're done, there will be an option to have a drink at the Pelican Inn if people are up for it, which we pass on the way back to Sausalito.

Bring layers: in the shade, esp when you start out, it can be cold in Muir Woods. But once you get going and you hit a patch of sun, you'll be toasty.

Call me on 415-823-4444 if you need to reach me.

Look forward to meeting some more Brits!

Dear All,

Another end-of-the-month drinks night is rolling around, once more, when we'll be returning to "The Pub" in Ghirardelli Square. Scott, the manager who may have greeted you last time, has arranged for $4 glasses of red and white wine, a vodka cocktail and Stella. Cant' be bad!

We'll start at the earlier time of 7pm, since some people have suggested an earlier start, although I'll be there later.

See you then.

Okay, chaps,

I thought of a fun event that we could all try: A group bike ride from Fisherman's Wharf to Sausilito. (I know: very "Touristy" but you'd be amazed how many of us who actually live here haven't done this yet!). You don’t need to be a good cyclist or own a bike - see below:

The Plan

We meet by the silver sculpture on the grass lawn 50 yards to the south (back towards the ferry building) of the Acquarium of the Bay at Fishermans Wharf at 1.30 pm (I'll be there with my Union flag!)

We will cycle (nice and gently) along the Embarcadero, through Crissy Fields and up over the GG bridge before heading downhill to Sausilito.

There we can lock our bikes and head in to the British-owned "Wellingtons Wine bar" http://www.wellingtonswinebar.com/Home.html for some well deserved refershments. They don’t have much food but there's a great chippie across the street you can get some take-out from before coming to the bar.

Don’t have a bike?

Easy, you can rent one for just $28 per day from Blazing Saddles http://blazingsaddles.com/ at various locations around SF including at Fisherman's Wharf. Print and take this voucher for a 10% discount http://blazingsaddles.com/display.aspx?pageid=8

Travelling back to SF

Ferry or Bike- take your pick!

The last ferry back to Fisherman's Wharf is at 7.45pm (there are also 5pm and 6 pm sailings) and the last ferry back to the SF Ferry Building is 6.35pm (there's a 5.35pm sailing too) - see links to schedules below:

http://www.blueandgoldfleet.com/Ferry/Sausalito/sausalitosummerfallschedule5110911109.cfm

http://www.goldengateferry.org/schedules/Sausalito.php

Don't want to cycle?
Just meet us at Wellingtons- it opens at 3pm and we (the "cycle gang") should arrive not long after....I hope!

Try not to be late and, if you're renting a bike, try to allow enough time to get it prior to the 1.30 departure time. If you are running late though or can’t find us then call me on 650 888 2521 so we can wait for you.

Also, if you want to join us en-route (Fort Mason etc) let me know that too so we can expect you.

Hope to see many of you there!

Cheers

Hello everyone,

It's nearly time for the August drinks night, so I thought we'd return to Perry's. Please join the crowd for our monthly get together for a pint and a chat (or a glass of wine!).

I'll be down there at about 8pm, but please feel free to turn up at the usual time, buy a drink from the bar and introduce yourselves to other Brits (listen out for the accents near the bar!).

See you down there.

There are so many great reasons to be living here, not least of which is the ability to plan a barbecue in advance! So, Grahame and I have reserved the picnic area at Lindley Meadows in Golden Gate Park on Sunday, August 2nd for a summer picnic and barbecue. I thought we’d give that great American tradition, a potluck, a go.

So, bring something for yourself and your family for the barbecue, plus enough to share with a couple of other people, and then a salad, appetizer, dessert or cheese and biscuits to share with others. This has worked well in my experience and we should end up with a grand feast.

Most importantly, make sure you bring beer or wine or whatever else you want to drink and some picnic ware. A dollar or two to off-set the cost of hiring the picnic grounds would be appreciated, as would a table cloth, if you have one. If you have a set of barbecue implements, please give a shout on your reply.

Otherwise, please bring along your family, chairs, blankets, (flasks of tea!), friends, dogs, games and whatever else you wish to add to the party.

Hope a lot of you can make it.

Cheerio ‘til then or see you on Friday 31st at “The Pub”.

Hello to you all,

I have two events coming up, shortly, the first of which is our usual last-Friday-of-the-month drink's night, followed by a picnic/barbecue in Golden Gate Park on Sunday 2nd August.

We will be returning to an old stamping ground, O'Neills in Ghiradelli Square, that has been made over and has reopened as "The Pub". There is a a large bar area, tables if you wish to have dinner and, most importantly, beer on tap!

Look forward to seeing you all down there.

It's time, once again, for another Meetup and we'll be making a return visit to Perry's.

I'll be down there a little later than 7.30pm, but buy a drink from the bar and hang out with the other Brits who will be gathering nearby (just listen out for the accents!).

Hope to see you there.
